KeolisAmey Metrolink, a joint venture between Keolis and Amey, took over operations and maintenance of Manchester’s Metrolink for a period of up to 10 years from July 2017.
The KeolisAmey Metrolink tram system is the largest of its kind in the UK. It serves 99 stops across eight different lines along almost 103km of track, with a fleet of 120 modern trams catering for more than 34 million journeys a year.
Key features of the contract include a major focus on improving operational reliability, customer service and security with an increased staff presence on the network – particularly in the evening and at weekends.
Already, in the year 2018/19, the Metrolink achieved the highest passenger growth of all UK light rail networks with a 6.1% increase from 42.4 million to 43.7 million journeys.
KeolisAmey Metrolink is committed to sourcing a minimum of 40% of supplier contracts within 25 miles of Greater Manchester and creating more than 300 jobs including drivers, apprenticeships and traineeships over the course of the contract.
Over 60 of those new jobs have already started, following successful recruitment of additional Customer Service Representatives and Travel Safe Officers, as well as more drivers.
